Description:
This full day workshop begins at 10:00am with an introduction to the history of spinning and a brief overview of some of the cultural practices of spinning in different parts of the world. Next we dive into a hands-on exploration of all the luxurious types of fibre that can be spun. The mechanics of spinning will become apparent as we take up our drop spindles and begin the magical transformation that we will pursue over the course of the day. After a gourmet organic lunch from our gardens we will resume with an introduction to the benefits and limitations of different spinning wheels as we learn how to work with colour and texture to create beautiful and unique yarn. This full day workshop includes all the materials you need for an inspiring day of spinning and a take-home bag of lovely locally produced and carded wool along with your own simple drop spindle so you can continue to refine your new spinning skills at home. We will also have oodles of wonderful fibre for sale along with fancy drop spindles and other tools of the trade. Watch out, this a highly addictive pursuit!
